This Method Statement is to provide guidance in carrying out the connection of drainage pipe line of a project with main drainage lines.
Purpose of this method statement is to control and define the construction activities, procedures and other requirements that will be utilized to carrying out the connection of drainage pipe line to the main line.
All the safety requirements as per HSE rules shall be strictly followed by every individuals in order to have a safe working environment and avoid hazards.
Safety permits to be prepared in advance and obtained approval as per the site safety requirements.
Isolation of the area, and display warning signs if necessary, for any testing and energizing.
Ensure all concerned personnel shall use PPE and all other safety items as required.
Following tools are necessary for the pipe connection works.

- Drill machines
- Ladders
- Scaffoldings
Roles and Responsibility
Project Manager
Will have full authority and overall responsibility to manage, supervise, control the works and have direct responsibility for ensuring safe working practices and compliance with regulatory authorities’ requirements, co ordinate with engineers and contractor for execution of the contract scope of works. Implement the project quality systems to the satisfaction of the project requirements. Review changes and variations to evaluate impact of those on time and schedule.
Mechanical Plumbing Engineer
Responsible for ensuring that all works are carried out as per the specifications, approved shop drawings and method statement as per the manufacturer instructions and coordinated with other works.
QA/QC Engineer (Mechanical)
Responsible for monitoring that the works are in fulfillment with the specified requirements that all quality records related to the works are complete.
Ensure that all installations to be done as per approved material, approved layout shop drawing and coordination drawings, approved installation details, and approved mockup.
Carry out all the inspections with the contractor QC Engineers and Consulting Engineers.
Method & Sequence of Drainage Pipe Connection
Ensure that all materials required for the connection of the drainage pipe works is available on site.
Make sure that approved shop drawing is available on the site.
Ensure all applicable permits are available prior to commencement of the activities.
Install all support as per approved drainage route & as per the site condition.
Lay the drainage pipe by placing on the installed supports as per the approved drawing and as per the site condition.
Slope and alignments of the pipe had to be checked and ensure that the activities are as per the approved details & drawings.
Any adjustments for the alignment of the pipe should be done through the pipe support.
When the pipe line reaches the main pipeline where it is to be connected, install end plugs to the pipeline and follow the testing procedure as per below section.
After the test is done and cleared, remove the end plugs installed in the drainage pipe line.
Connect both pipelines as per the approved details and drawings.
Check and recheck the pipeline installation for any visual defects.
Testing the Pipeline
The pipeline shall be water gravity tested for 24 hours before connecting to the main pipeline.
A test line, minimum 1.5 meters above the highest elevation of the pipe under test to be provided for the pipeline.
Ensure that the end plug has been provided to the end of the pipe line to be tested.
Fill the pipeline to be tested with water and the water level should be marked to the test line provided as stated above.
Test and check the line for any leak or damage and maintain the water for 24 hours. When cleared follow procedure as per above section.
General Site HSE Requirements
All the Employees coming to the Project (including the Visitors, Drivers etc.) must attend the safety induction training conducted by safety team. Safety Officials must be approved by the main contractor.
Ensure a Safe Working Area that include but not limited to Appropriate Access and Egress, Adequate Lighting and Ventilation, Appropriate Working Platform, etc.
Arrange the appropriate PPE’s and ensure its correct usage by the worker while working.
Wear the appropriate PPE’s in addition to the basis PPE’s that includes the hard hat, high visibility jacket, overall and safety shoes.
Arrange appropriate power tools and hand tools.
Ensure Adequate Power Supply through an Isolating Device.
Maintain Housekeeping “Everything has a place and everything in its place”.
Always keep the access / egress clean and tidy.
Site engineer to ensure the compliance with the safe system of work procedures and arrange the resources.
Supervisor/ Foremen will closely supervise all operations and Site Safety team will monitor the activity.
Inform all the Accidents and Near misses to the Safety Team without any time delay.
Follow the Emergency Rescue Procedures in case of an emergency (refer to project Emergency Rescue Plan).
Get the awareness about the location of the Site First Aid Clinic, Fire Points and the Nearest Assembly Points prior to start the work.
Get the Permit to Work before work commences if it is required as per the site safety rules and regulations.
